Florida International University recognizes several programs that allow students to receive college credit, accelerating their collegiate studies. These programs are: Advanced Placement (AP), Caribbean Advance Placement Examination(CAPE), Dante's Subject Standardized Tests (DANTE/DSST), International Baccalaureate (IB), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), and British Bases A-Levels (GCE A-Levels). Students must have official exam results sent directly to the Office of Admissions, prior to enrollment.

Credit-by-Exam Equivalencies

Section 1007.27(2), Florida Statutes, requires the Articulation Coordinating Committee (ACC) to establish passing scores as well as course and credit equivalents for Advanced Placement (AP), Advanced International Certificate of Education Program (AICE/AS and A-Level), International Baccalaureate (IB), and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams. The DANTES/DSST and Excelsior College exam equivalents on the list are not part of that requirement, but are authorized by State Board of Education Rule 6A-10.024.

Florida International University uses the ACC-recommended equivalents for AP, AICE (AS and A-Level), IB, CLEP, DANTES/DSST, and Excelsior College exams. Independent of the ACC-approved list of exams, the University also awards credit for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE).

Exams that are not included as part of the ACC-approved list, including those taken outside the U.S., are evaluated on an individual basis under the following conditions: (a) the student or academic/faculty advisor initiates the evaluation, (b) the exams are fully recognized by a legitimate educational governing body, (c) the exam title, score, and scoring scheme are included as part of official transcripts or other official documentation forwarded to the University, and (d) detailed information regarding the exam content is offered. In accordance with State guidelines, the final decision to award credit rests solely on the receiving institution (i.e., FIU).
